What is COACTEA?

COACTEA is the Council of ACT Education Associations. COACTEA is a duly constituted and incorporated body and has 38 affiliates representing over 4000 educators across all sectors.

COACTEA formation was supported by National Professional Development (NPDP) funding to explore the potential for its services through 1996 - 97. This included the production of the first Directory and quarterly newsletter, participation in consultation with the Federal Minister (Dr David Kemp) on the formation of a new national body for teachers, meeting with the Chief Executive (Ms Fran Hinton) and the Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Canberra (Professor Kerry Kennedy) and the running of a highly successful Forum in August 1997.

The COACTEA Executive has recently developed a Strategic Plan for 1997 - 2000 in the light of activities to date, changing trends in professional development and the post - NPDP climate.

A frequent exchange of information and news is maintained through the COACTEA newsletter. Member associations are encouraged to use the newsletter as a networking tool to publicise information and events which may be of interest to educators in a variety of fields.

On the date of incorporation there were 25 founding member associations of COACTEA and today our membership of 34 represents more than 4000 teachers and educators from all levels of education, from government and non-government sectors.

Our role supporting, promoting, representing and linking education associations in the ACT is one of which we are very proud.
